According to figures from the Health and Safety Executive, there were 77 fatal accidents in the construction industry in 2006/7, a 28% increase in figures from the previous year. Of these 77 deaths, 30% were due to fall from height, and 21% were due to being hit by a moving or falling object. These two accidents have for many years been amongst the most dangerous construction site accident. However, there are many more minor or even serious accidents which take place ever year, in 2006/7 around 1.6% of workers suffered from some form of non fatal injury, such as a slip, trip or fall.
Construction site accident claims
At Camps Solicitors we know that a serious construction site accident can have a significant impact on a person's life. Injuries to the neck, back or to the joints often take many years to recover, and may prevent the victim from ever returning to a physically demanding job such as construction site work or heavy industry. If those responsible for ensuring the safety of any construction site environment have neglected to follow the relevant guidance, e.g. The Construction (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1996, then there may be very good grounds for you to make a claim.
Our expertise in handling construction site injury claims means that Camps Solicitors will push for the maximum compensation for each individual set of circumstances. We realise that for many people who have been seriously injured in a construction site, there will be considerable financial pressures if they are forced to give up their job, this is why we will aim to recover any potential lost earnings, the costs of adapting your home and monies to cover the provision of care as part of your compensation claim.
Warehouse accident claims
Working in a warehouse environment is in many ways just as potentially dangerous a job as working on a construction site. Many of the injuries that Camps Solicitors deal with after accidents in warehouses are similar to those which occur on construction sites. Falls from height, injuries caused by falling objects and accidents involving industrial vehicles are all likely to occur in the high pressure environment of a warehouse. If these accidents were the fault of another person or of unsafe working practices, then there may be grounds to make a claim.
Warehouses are typically busy places with a constant flow of goods in and out. This obviously means there will be a fair amount of traffic, both from delivery vehicles bringing in and taking away the stock, and forklift trucks and trolleys moving stock around inside the warehouse itself. Employers should take care that the appropriate measures are in place to minimise the risks of accidents in a warehouse being caused by moving vehicles.
The physical nature of a warehouse job obviously brings with the risk of injury caused by manual handling. Where an injury is caused whilst performing a manual handling task, then there may be grounds to make an accident compensation claim , for example, you may not have received proper training or safety equipment, or you may have been told to lift an object that was too heavy.
