Chronic pain sufferers are being sought out by researchers at the University of Aberdeen for a large research trial into the condition to take place later this month. Sufferers in their 60’s are being invited to attend a series of seminars where participants will give their own accounts of living with the condition, which in many cases may develop from a relatively minor injury such as whiplash caused by a road traffic accident into a lifelong debilitating condition.
One of the researchers, Dr Pat Schofield, who has worked in pain management for more than 20 years, explained: “We really want people who are 60 and over who suffer from chronic pain to come to our events which will be hosted by new and established researchers. The events will begin with a presentation by one of our chronic pain experts and then break out into little groups where we want to hear the experiences of people with chronic pain and what they think we should be looking at regarding the problem. It is really important that we do get input because the findings from our seminars will help shape our future research.”
Chronic pain syndrome can be triggered by any minor injury, such as being involved in a road traffic accident, slipping and tripping accidents and even more unusual accidents such as being injured by an animal. Any injury where the pain lasts for longer than the body would otherwise take to heal itself could give rise chronic pain syndrome. If all obvious sources of pain have been ruled out, then doctors may diagnose chronic pain syndrome in someone who has experienced symptom-less pain for at least three months.
If you are suffering from chronic pain, and you believe your condition may have been triggered by an accident that was not your fault, it may be possible to claim compensation, provided the accident took place within the last three years. Camps Solicitors make claiming compensation for chronic pain syndrome easy. Our solicitors and staff will take the strain out of making a claim, allowing you to get on with your life.
