Merseyside train accident on the Liverpool/Preston railway line

Passengers have lucky escape after train leaves rails near Liverpool

Authorities on Merseyside are breathing a sigh of relief after a train derailment in Liverpool that could have turned into a major accident left only 1 person with minor injuries.

The accident happened on the railway line between Liverpool and Preston, when a train travelling from Blackpool towards Liverpool Lime Street Station came off the rails last night, leaving the 39 passengers onboard stranded.  Fire and ambulance crews attended the accident, taking the injured person to hospital in Liverpool and walking the other passengers to safety along the railway line towards Broadgreen Station in Liverpool.

A major investigation has been launched into the incident, which happened at about 9pm on Thursday evening.  The accident has had a knock-on effect on passenger services between Liverpool and the rest of the Northwest, with trains to Manchester Airport being cancelled on Friday and several other services being delayed by around 1 hour.  Passengers were being advised to check with train operators before travelling to or from Liverpool Lime Street.

Claiming compensation for railway accidents

Whilst yesterday’s incident has fortunately passed off with apparently only one person needing medical attention, there are still several incidents every year on Britain’s railways where people are injured through no fault of their own.  If you are one of these people and you believe you were not to blame for your injury, you might be entitled to claim compensation from the train company responsible.  It doesn’t matter whether your accident took place on a train or in a station, if it was due to someone else’s negligence.
