Compensation claim payout in buggy injury case
Manufacturer Maclaren compensates injured children
The case of the defective pushchairs, one that we reported on in the Camps Maclaren pushchair compensation blog last year, has reached a conclusion after the manufacturer, Maclaren agreed to pay personal injury compensation to over 40 children. Their families have alleged that these youngsters suffered serious injuries after trapping their fingers in the hinges of Maclaren’s folding pushchairs. This victory for victims in the UK comes after reports of injuries to children in the US prompted the manufacturer to recall one million of its pushchairs and buggies as a safety precaution.
After initial reports of children injuring their hands in the hinges on the buggies in the US, Maclaren denied that its products in the UK were affected by the same issue, until parents here came forward to complain that their children too were injuring themselves in the hinges. Maclaren subsequently made a special cover for the hinges available via its website.
The settlement of the claims brought on behalf of the injured children has been made without Maclaren admitting liability. Individual compensation payouts, estimated to be between £2,500 and £10,000 each, are dependant on the severity of the injuries suffered by the child in question, with all monies being invested until the child reaches the age of 18.
