Fatal skateboard accident widow launches compensation claim
The widow of a man killed in a collision between a skateboard, a motorcycle and a car in Devon has launched a claim for damages in what is believed to be the first fatal road traffic accident caused by a skateboard.
The accident happened in April 2007 on Plymbridge Road in Plymouth when a motorcyclist hit a 15 year old boy who was retrieving his skateboard from the middle of the road. The boy was hit by the motorbike, suffering a broken collarbone, but the impact pushed the 47 year old motorcyclist into the path of an oncoming car which struck and killed him.
The motorcyclist’s widow has launched a compensation claim against the home insurance policy of the skateboarder, which was described by her solicitor as being for a “significant six figure sum.” Her solicitor went on to say that “the claim is designed to put the victim’s family on the same financial footing, both for past and future financial losses, as it would be but for his death. It is a significant claim.”
