How much is my face injury compensation claim worth? (Part 2)
Guideline amounts for facial injury compensation claims
Today is the second instalment of the blog series looking at facial injury compensation claims; this time I will be looking at the likely compensation figures paid out in the case of accidents that affect the victim’s teeth and also accidents that leave the victim with permanent facial scarring. All figures mentioned in today’s post are guidelines only and should not be taken as definitive figures for compensation claims.
Injuries to your teeth
Teeth are often overlooked when people think about the likely injuries that might occur as a result of an accident. However there are a number of different accidents that might cause you to lose a tooth, such as tripping or slipping accidents, or any accident where you have been hit in the face. A lost tooth might require an expensive prosthetic replacement and a lengthy trip to the dentist at the very least.
Teeth injury compensation figures
At the lowest end of the scale, losing or damaging a single tooth in a non-fault accident might only make you eligible to receive between £700 and £1,100. If a front tooth is lost, it is likely compensation will be in the region of £1,400 to £2,500 and for two front teeth, £2,750 to £4,850. Someone who has lost several front teeth might receive compensation in the region of £5,600 to £7,250.
Facial Disfigurement / Face scarring compensation
Awards of compensation for facial disfigurement rather interestingly differ between the sexes. Women who have been left physically scarred by an accident tend to receive a larger amount of compensation than men, in the case of moderate and serious facial injuries. Also, larger compensation awards may be paid out to people who have had to undergo multiple operations after their accident to repair the damage to their face or to lessen the appearance of any scarring.
Very minor scarring after a facial injury will usually result in compensation of about £1,100 to £2,200 for both men and women. Injuries at this level would usually only include very slight scarring that can be camouflaged relatively easily with make-up.
Moderate scarring (also described less significant and significant scarring in the Judicial Studies Board’s guidelines) might attract a compensation award of around £2,500 to £11,500 in men and £2,500 to £19,250 for women. Injuries at the lower end of this level might consist of a series of small scars that are only noticeable up-close, whilst at the upper end, a person might have undergone some plastic surgery and any scarring might be visible from further away.
The highest levels of compensation paid out in the case of facial disfigurement ranges from £11,500 to £42,000 in men and from £19,250 to £62,000 in women. Injuries at this level would include cases of severe disfigurement where a person also has a psychological reaction to their injuries. The higher end of this category would usually be paid out in cases were the injured person was under 30 at the time of their accident.
