MIB reveals over 1.7 million motorists ‘Driving without insurance’
Big cities worst for uninsured drivers in the UK
Drivers in London, Merseyside and Greater Manchester have been named the worst offenders when it comes to driving without motor insurance, according to new research from the Motor Insurers’ Bureau. In total it is estimated that more than 1.7 million drivers on the UK’s roads have no vehicle insurance.
A new campaign is being launched to encourage drivers to renew their insurance cover by reminding them of the penalties of driving without insurance. These penalties include a £200 fine, potentially up to six points on your licence and having your vehicle seized by the police. According to figures from the Motor Insurers’ Bureau, 500 motorists a day are being caught by number plate recognition technology – which links special cameras operated by police officers to the Motor Insurance Database to see if a particular vehicle has been insured.
According to the MIB, around 13% of vehicles in the Greater London area are uninsured, with Merseyside and Greater Manchester having around 12% and 10% uninsured vehicles respectively.

Uninsured drivers are causing trouble to government and financial instituitons. Police course should highlight the need for routine checking of motorists vehicle details and insurance details. Uninsured drivers and the organizations availing their service should be penalized.
This is a sad but scary fact. Up to this day I still don’t understand how people can even be thinking of driving without a license with the risks involved.
