Somerset Bicycle Accident Compensation Claim

A man from Taunton in Somerset has received compensation for a personal injury he received whilst out cycling in his hometown. Mr. Hardwick was cycling along Wilfred road in Taunton at night in September 2005 when his bike collided with a planting trough. With legal advice from Camps Solicitors' specialist personal injury solicitors, Mr. Hardwick was able to make a successful 'slip and trip' compensation claim against Taunton Dean Borough Council.

In the accident, Mr. Hardwick was thrown over the handlebars of his bike and landed awkwardly, causing soft tissue injuries to his right thumb together with a fracture to his left collarbone. The fracture to his collarbone was so serious that he had to undergo an operation a few weeks after the accident to join the two halves of the bone together with metal pins, which caused great discomfort. The fracture eventually healed but Mr. Hardwick was left with a large bump on his left collarbone. It was also later discovered that he had torn a ligament in his thumb and had detached a piece of the bone.

In the weeks after the accident Mr. Hardwick was unable to return to his work at a car parts warehouse, as the role was very physically demanding and he was unable to lift heavy objects. Mr. Hardwick decided that due to his injuries, he would need to find a different job that was less physically demanding. In addition to affecting his work, Mr. Hardwick was unable to take part in most leisure activities and used his bicycle a lot less often.

Mr. Hardwick's case was handled by one of our specialist personal injury solicitors, who was able to provide advice about the complex laws covering personal injuries on public land. A claim was put together to cover both Mr. Hardwick's personal injuries and his lost earnings whilst he was off work. The claim was settled and Mr. Hardwick received £9,750 for his injuries and loss of earnings.

Commenting on his experiences, Mr Hardwick said:

"I would like to say a very big thank you to all at Camps Solicitors for all their help over the past months.

From the outset on day one they have been nothing but helpful and thorough and courteous for example; as I was unable to do much for myself in the beginning term of my injuries, they sent one of their team to my house to help me fill out all the relevant paper work to proceed with my claim. They also informed me of any progress or change immediately, I could also do this myself on line with their excellent tracking system. Without a doubt I would ring Camps Solicitors if I ever needed a solicitor again, keep up the good work.

Many thanks for all you have done."
