Oldham motorbike accident victim left blind and unable to walk
An Oldham man who was left brain damaged, blind and unable to walk after being hit by a motorbike has been awarded £5.6m in accident compensation.
The personal injury payout involves a £2.7m lump sum, followed by annual payments of nearly £130,000 (£128,000) to pay for the victim’s 24 hour care.
Brian Agard and his family have won the money following a seven-year legal fight, with Mr Justice Wyn Williams commenting that it “represented a fair and proper settlement”.
Mr Agard had been on his way to coach a local rugby club’s youth team when the motorbike hit him.
The court heard that his injuries were so bad that the doctors decided to amputate his leg immediately.
Once in hospital, complications which occurred during surgery caused brain damage and left Mr Agard blind.
