Coach fire on M1 due to road traffic accident

Passengers saved by driver’s quick thinking

The M1 motorway was the scene of a dramatic incident today in which a coach burst into flames on the hard shoulder after developing mechanical problems.  The coach driver, Don Edwards, has been praised for making sure all the passengers were safely evacuated from the coach before the fire took hold.  The accident took place at junction 22 on the M1, near the town of Coalville in Leicestershire.

Whilst fire is probably not the most likely way you might be injured on a coach, it was only the quick thinking of the driver that prevented a very serious accident.  In the words of one of the passengers on the bus, Heather Savage, who spoke to the BBC after the crash, “The driver was an absolute hero.  Within a few minutes the bus was full of thick black smoke – and that’s a killer, more than the flames.  It could have been terrible but the driver got everybody calmly off the bus.  He was amazing.”

You are much more likely to be injured travelling on a bus if you are involved in a collision with another vehicle than you are from a fire.  At Camps Solicitors our road traffic accident lawyers have been handling claims for people injured in road traffic accidents where they were not at fault for more than 25 years.  Whatever the circumstances of your accident, we can help you to make a compensation claim, even if you were the passenger in a vehicle such as a bus, taxi or coach.

Making a claim with Camps is easy.  Our expert road accident lawyers will guide you through the claims process from start to finish.  We will even arrange for one of our client liaison officers to visit you at home to help you fill in any forms we need from you.  Whatever the circumstances of your accident, Camps will fight for you to receive the maximum possible compensation, either through negotiations with insurance companies, or if necessary, on your behalf in court.
