As I mentioned in Monday’s blog post, a recent fatal car crash on the Wirral, at a known accident blackspot only a few miles from the Camps offices has led to renewed calls for more action to be taken by councils and the highways agency to cut road deaths caused by poor road design. The crash in question resulted in 5 fatalities, including a six-year old girl, 3 women aged 71, 61 and 59 and a man aged 73.
In the words of a local councillor speaking about the scene of the accident, the road was an “accident blackspot” which had seen numerous accidents in previous years, due to the presence of substantial stone walls on either side of the road. Any vehicles hitting these solid walls at any speed would be likely to rebound off them and into the path of oncoming traffic, which is what appeared to have happened in this particularly tragic incident. It is believed that the male driver lost control of his vehicle, which then hit a wall and rebounded into the path of the vehicle carrying the four women and the little girl.
Whilst this is only one example of the kind of accident that can happen on a dangerous stretch of road, there are hundreds of similarly dangerous sections of road in England and Wales. As a firm of solicitors dealing with fatal accidents on the roads, we see all too often the devastating results of accidents on dangerous stretches of road. Where the dangers can be reduced by better road design, or reduced speed limits, then local authorities and the highways agency should be proactive in introducing these changes.
Any fatal accident is a tragedy, but where an accident was someone else’s fault, then it may be possible to make a claim for compensation. If the death of a family member has left you with financial hardships, then a No-Win No-Fee claim could put an end to your money worries by recovering money for the earnings that the deceased would have made had they not been killed. Camps Solicitors offer sensitive and understanding service to the families of people killed in accidents, not just on the road, but at work and in public places as well.
