Training centre opens for RTA emergency services

First road traffic collision training centre in country

A new emergency services training centre designed specifically to improve the response to road traffic accidents has been opened in North Lincolnshire.  The Road Traffic Collision Training Centre, based in Flixborough near Scunthorpe is the first of its kind in the country and provides Police, Fire and Ambulance service personnel the opportunity to hone their skills working on reconstructions of dramatic road accidents.

The ability to recreate the kinds of situations emergency services personnel might come across at the scene of a real accident allows them to train for complex tasks such as recovering casualties from damaged vehicles.  As well as a large area for conducting outdoor exercises, the new centre also has opportunities for classroom-based learning.

The idea behind the centre is that by providing a dedicated space for this specialist training, emergency services all over the country will be able to improve their responses to large scale road traffic accidents.  It is hoped that through dedicated training, better ways of stabilising casualties who may be trapped, recovering injured people and managing accident scenes will be developed which will be of benefit in real-life crashes.
