Berkshire town tops list of accident hot spots
It might be most famous as the setting for TV’s “The Office”, but now the town of Slough in Berkshire, often regarded as one of the most average places in Britain, has topped a survey.
Unfortunately the survey in question was looking into road accident rates across Britain, and Slough was revealed to have an accident rate 41.3% higher than the UK average. This news is even more of a surprise given that since the 1950’s Slough has often been used to trial various road safety schemes designed to reduce accidents.
The survey was commissioned by an insurance company and looked at towns across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland to find the area where drivers would be at the lowest risk of being involved in a road accident. For the second year running, Belfast came out as the safest town in terms of its road accident rate, which was 44.9% below the UK average. The next safest places were the towns of Bangor and Swansea in Wales.
