The Association of Personal Injury Lawyers was established in 1990 by a group of lawyers working on behalf of personal injury victims. APIL campaigns for better laws to help people who are injured or become ill through no fault of their own. APIL provides accreditation to lawyers specialising in the area of personal injury law. MASS
The Motor Accident Solicitors Society is a UK association of solicitors who specialise in road traffic accident claims. MASS is non-profit making organisation, its members are required to adhere to minimum service standards which are set out in the MASS Charter. Law Society
The Law Society represents all solicitors in England and Wales. The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) regulates more than 100,000 solicitors in England and Wales. The SRA is the independent regulatory body of the Law Society of England and Wales. Established in January 2007, the SRA was previously called the Law Society Regulation Board. Its purpose is to protect the public by ensuring that solicitors meet high standards and by acting when risks are identified. The solicitors' profession ranges from single-solicitor practices to huge firms with a global presence and thousands of lawyers. All solicitors follow the same professional principles and code of conduct. The SRA provides advice to help them to do so.
Ministry of Justice
The Ministry of Justice has responsibility for the regulation of all law firms and other companies that provide claims management services under the Compensation Act 2006. The purpose of the Act is to regulate businesses providing claims management services so that they comply with rules covering the conduct of their business. The Compensation Act was created after the collapse of several high profile claims management companies in 2002 and 2003. It is an offence for any business to offer claims management services without prior authorisation, exemption or waiver.
