Symptoms developed over 40 years after initial exposure
A widow whose husband, a retired policeman, died from an asbestos-related disease has made a successful compensation claim against the firm he worked for as a 16-year old engineering apprentice.
Mrs B’s claim, which was conducted by another firm of solicitors unrelated to Camps, shows just how long some asbestos-related diseases such as the cancer mesothelioma take to develop. In this case, her husband was initially exposed to asbestos dust back in 1963 yet wasn’t diagnosed as suffering from mesothelioma until two months before his death in 2005. In the intervening period Mr B had served as a policeman for 25 years, retiring in 2001.
Diagnosed with an asbestos-related disease
Mr B’s death at just 59 after having only been diagnosed with an asbestos-related disease two months before shows just how devastating an impact a disease of this kind can have. Mr B died only two weeks after contacting a firm of solicitors to begin an asbestos compensation claim; a claim which eventually took almost 4 years. As his solicitor said when the settlement was announced: “Mesothelioma is a devastating disease which ended Mr B’s life at a relatively young age when he was preparing to enjoy his retirement.”
This claim, although it was not handled by Camps Solicitors, is typical of the kind of claims relating from asbestos exposure. Often many decades can pass between being exposed to asbestos and going on to develop symptoms of a disease.

It’s very important to get a good Mesothelioma asbestos attorney even if you were just diagnosed. I think if someone in my family were suddenly diagnosed with an asbestos related disease, I would find the best attorney to help with any part of the process. It’s unfortunate if something like this happens to someone, but the best option is to get the treatments you need right away, and have someone with you to help.
